We can read all kind of articles and information about people who changed their whole life by following a more whole foods diet, but until something really hits it home, it can take a while for us to jump on the train ourselves.
I hope this articles will help to educate you how important it is to change your diet if you want to live a life free of illness and disease. Many of you many be struggling already with debilitating conditions and are wondering what will finally bring relief, or if you’ll have to suffer the rest of your life.
If you’re reading this article, chances are pretty good that you’re considering changing your current habits. Kudos to you for taking the first step!
Today I want to talk to you about something you probably hear about all the time: sugar.
Do we really need to worry about sugar? What are the main concerns with too much sugar consumption? Is all sugar bad?
The sugar habit can be one of the HARDEST habits to kick, but it is possible. It is also EXTREMELY important!
Sugar and Cancer
CANCER THRIVES ON SUGAR. Plain and simple.
It has been shown that cancer cells have 15 times the sugar receptors that normal, healthy cells have! This means they LOVE sugar. They devour sugar. And when you are eating too much sugar (processed, white, brown, artificial, corn syrup, cane sugar), you may literally be feeding and fueling cancer cells.
When you get a scan for cancer (PET scan) you are given, by mouth or through a vein, a substance with radioactive glucose (sugar). Medical staff are able to see exactly where your cancer is because cancer cells go crazy on the glucose, positrons are released and collide with electrons, creating rays the doctors are able to pick up on the scan.
Cancer cells are just as alive as other cells, and when they grow they not only eat up sugar like mad, but they can even make you crave it.
Because being injected with something that is radioactive is not ideal, researchers have been searching for alternative methods to find cancer in the body.
Recently, at the University College Of London, researchers developed a method using an MRI machine called a glucoCEST (glucose chemical exchange saturation transfer). With this form of testing, scientists can inject and search for regular glucose (sugar, not radioactive) in the body. When they find areas that are lit up brightly, it usually means they’ve found a tumor, as tumors contain very high amounts of sugar.
I am absolutely not saying you should avoid healthy sugars from fruits and other whole foods. Your body does need some sugar for energy and fuel and these natural sources are the best places to get it from. The problem comes when we are adding all the extra sugars into our diets from candies, baked goods, processed foods, dressings, sauces, etc.
Here are 4 tips to eat LESS sugar:
#1 Stick to whole fruits and veggies, raw nuts and seeds and organic grass-fed meats for the bulk of your diet.
#2 Avoid grains that contain corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup or added sugar.
#3 Learn to avoid processed foods that come from a box or a package!
#4 Drink more water, green juice (at least 80% veggies), green smoothies, sugar-free green and herbal teas, kombucha, water kefir, etc. Drink less commercial fruit juice, soda, sugary drinks, sports drinks, energy drinks and store bought lemonade. If you can, avoid these common culprits altogether.
It is so important to become aware of what is going on inside of our bodies. There are still some people who believe that our health is not largely affected by the foods we put into our mouths. This is simply incorrect.
What you put into your mouth becomes the building blocks for every single cell in your body. It is worth all the time and energy you spend learning the right ways to eat and figuring out how to implement good recipes in your home. Your health is worth it!
Living a long, healthy life full of energy and vitality is absolutely priceless. I am here to help you live that life.
